We are now accepting applications for Medicine and Dental Surgery at Cardiff University International Study Centre

We are now open for applications to Medicine and Dental Surgery at Cardiff University through the International Foundation Year in Health, Medical and Life Sciences. There are higher entry requirements for these degree aims and additional progression requirements – which will be detailed on the progression degree document included with each students’ course offer letter.

Application to the International Foundation Year (IFY) – Health, Medical and Life Sciences

  • Places for each Foundation route will be limited (10 places for Medicine and 10 for Dental Surgery) and will be on a first-come-first-served basis for September 2021 entry only.
  • It is recommended that students confirm their place as soon as possible to guarantee their place.
  • Once we have filled the 10 places on each route, we will operate a waiting list.

Progression requirements for Medicine or Dental Surgery

There are no guaranteed places for progression to the University – students have to go through a highly competitive process as follows:

  • Achieve the progression criteria: the exit percentage has been set at 70% overall and 70% in English (with no less than 70% in speaking and 60% in all other skills. English will be assessed to meet the SG benchmarking to the 7.0 IELTS.
  • Pass all of the assessment requirements for entry –  70% pass on the IFY, UCAT, pass an interview (MMI), DBS
  • Students entering the IFY programme will be guaranteed an interview (MMI)
  • Obtain a satisfactory DBS check or Certificate of Good Conduct (if appropriate)
  • Complete occupational Health check (which may include vaccinations) where required
  • Success in the UCAT will be required in line with current School entry requirements

Each student’s progress will be monitored closely throughout their time at the International Study Centre to ensure that the best possible outcome is reached for any student that may not be on track to meet requirements or is not selected for one of the degree places. Students can have a back-up option from the wide range of life and bio sciences available, with some excellent options in Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, Zoology or Biochemistry.  There is also the option to move to degrees specialising in Genetics, Anatomy or Physiology.
